From postnatal depletion into the empowered and evolved woman you long to be, able to embrace the many challenges of Motherhood!

Welcome to Mothermorphosis

with Dr Oscar Serrallach.

Mothermorphosis is a live, online healing program created according to the principles of Maternal wellbeing and guided by Dr Oscar Serrallach, author of The Postnatal Depletion Cure. The program consists of 9 modules, each one taking place over a one month period. In addition to information and practical tools in every aspect of Maternal wellbeing, this program will offer a real community of support and understanding for Mothers!

“When I found Dr Oscar, I finally felt like I had come to a health practitioner who could help me. It was such a relief to know there was research and science around the health challenges I had been experiencing since becoming a mother. Now I feel like I’m on track again and able to enjoy Motherhood, whereas before it was just a total struggle.”

Does this sound familiar?

  • I’m struggling with issues such as brain fog, weight gain, anxiety and exhaustion since becoming a Mother.
  • I’ve been to see my Family Doctor but they can’t help me and I’ve even been told “You’re a Mother, that’s normal.”
  • Some days I think I might be depressed I feel so low, but I’m not sure if anti-depressants are the answer. I know its not just in my head.
  • I’m so much more sensitive now to bright lights and noise, and my nerves are shot.
  • Im in a constant state of Overwhelm.
  • No matter how much sleep I get, I just still feel exhausted.
  • Self care has gone out the window.
  • I stay home and avoid going out, I just don’t have the confidence I used to and I get anxious.
  • I am so cranky and I am experiencing explosive rage. This is just not like me! I feel like I am losing my mind. I can’t believe the things I am doing - or forgetting to do.

 Furthermore...

  • I wish I had a trusted, reliable and centralised source of information for all the questions I have.
  • I miss a sense of connection and am searching for deeper meaning in my life.
  • I wish I could feel more excited about Motherhood, but I’m stuck in a rut and can’t get out.

Here's the problem

Before Motherhood, the typical modern woman with her busy, high paced life is usually already close to the maximum capacity of what she and her baby can handle. Conception and pregnancy require huge amounts of physical resources. And then the baby’s delivery, whether by caesarean or vaginal delivery places further strain on her physical resources, and this is just day one of being a mother.

In our society, the time and resource demands of Motherhood are higher than ever and unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for parents to easily access the non-hired help of family and community to assist in looking after children. This mismatch between expectation and support, stacked on top of nutrient depletion leads directly to Mothers feeling overwhelmed. A new mother’s biology is simply not designed and shouldn’t be expected to have to deal with this level of ongoing stress.

“In my clinic, I do not see Mothers who have failed or who are not trying hard enough. What I do see every day are Mothers who are physically and emotionally depleted, exhausted and stressed. They are at the end of their tether with no end in sight.”

Dr Oscar Serrallach

What exactly is postnatal depletion?

Postnatal Depletion is a constellation of symptoms affecting all spheres of a mother’s life arising from the neuro-inflammation that can occur after she gives birth. These symptoms arise from physiological issues, hormonal changes and interruption of the circadian day/night rhythm of her sleep cycle, layered with psychological, mental and emotional components.

Postnatal Depletion also involves many mineral and vitamin insufficiencies – where the level of a mineral, vitamin or nutrient is not in the disease producing range, but in the sub-optimal range. In other words, an insufficiency wont give you a disease, but it means that your cells and organs are not able to run properly. This is turn can make you feel terrible.

It should be noted, that in many traditional societies around the world, there was innate wisdom about childbirth and recovery and the potential for depletion was understood. These cultures would have built in support for women after giving birth, involving deep rest, a diet of nutrient dense foods, support within the community for taking care of older children, massage and many other rituals to support her physically and emotionally.

Matrescence (the becoming of a Mother) is something that needs time and support. Sadly in the west, many women are not given this opportunity. In fact, it's almost seen as heroic how soon a Mother returns to work and gets her pre-baby body back. The lack of a proper recovery (4th trimester) after giving birth is something that can and does contribute to postnatal depletion in the long term. But the good news is, it’s never too late for your postnatal recovery.

Why did we create this program?

"Support, support and more support! Mothers are not supported, and we want to change that. This program is designed around what many modern Mothers need to get back on track with their health after having children, after so long in the dark about the health challenges they are facing.”

Mothermorphosis is a way for Mothers to have convenient access to simple Mother-Centric information from a postnatal medical specialist and other trusted wellness experts, holistic lifestyle tips and simple healing practices that are tailored for Motherhood that you can do in your own home, a systematic step by step process for a recovery that feels gentle and not overwhelming, plus a wellspring of support from other Mothers “who know and understand!”

May the Mothermorphosis Journey help women everywhere heal and transform into the well and thriving Mothers that our world is needing right now. May it help them more ably manage the challenges - and experience the many joys - of Motherhood.”

Details about the Mothermorphosis Course

Just as depletion occurs slowly over time, the journey of repletion and recovery also takes time. We are not offering any overnight magical fixes. However, many women have said that the excitement of finally feeling like they have been understood and being offered a systematic road map for recovery, brings huge inspiration which can give strength, courage and commitment for the journey ahead.

We can tell you that what you are experiencing is common, yes, but not normal.

We can also tell you that with understanding of the deeper biological and psychological issues at play, with guidance and support, and the willingness to make some lifestyle changes, you CAN change course on your experience of Motherhood and that a more relaxed, empowered and energised YOU is within reach.

Introducing Dr. Oscar Serrallach

Dr. Oscar Serrallach is a medical specialist dedicated to remaining at the cutting edge of wellness healthcare for mothers. This commitment led him to study and practice functional medicine, whilst at the same time, addressing the multi-faceted aspects of health and well-being.

Researching Postnatal Recovery for almost 10 years, Dr. Oscar Serrallach has shared his knowledge on Postnatal Depletion and fourth trimester healing with his revolutionary book, “The Postnatal Depletion Cure.”

Published by Goop in 2018, this was the first research to really look at the unique biology and hormones of a woman after giving birth and the toll that pregnancy birth and breastfeeding will place on her, especially if she is already depleted going into pregnancy.

Today, Dr. Oscar Serrallach continues to offer medical consultations and retreats around Byron Bay New South Wales in Australia, whilst building the resources and community for the MotherCare Project alongside his partner Caroline.

Introducing Caroline Cowley

Caroline was 32 when she and Dr Oscar had their first child. In the next four years, they had two more. Meaning, initially they had three children together age 5 and under. (The kids Felix, Max and Olivia are now 16, 14 and 12!)

If you have read the Postnatal Depletion Cure, you may know that Caroline’s struggles with her health through this time was a big part of the inspiration for Oscar to start his research.

What Caroline brings to the project is the first hand wisdom and experience about the struggles of Motherhood and healing from Postnatal Depletion.

For nearly a decade now, Caroline has been teaching womens yoga around Byron Bay, with a special focus on pre and post natal yoga and ayurveda. She is also passionate about building stronger communities and organises regular yoga and music events here in Northern NSW, Australia.

Caroline will be moderating our online group, sharing all the practices in our Mothers Wellness Lab and hosting our Monthly New Moon Mothers Circles. She will be the one on the end of the email, helping to facilitate communications between Dr Oscar and our participants and is also the one behind our social media.

The best programs and solutions for health issues are born of doctors that want to help themselves or their loved ones. That is how Dr. Serrallach arrived at his understanding of postnatal depletion, and what makes this book so helpful to women with the same issue, which is a world epidemic. His book is a guide to reclaiming optimal health that any mother who has given birth in the last seven years should read.
